Family Reunion

Hello everyone,

I hope this is better late than never, but I am finally getting around to posting my recent family reunion photos. We had such a blast in Fort Collins, at my sister's beautiful home and it was the first time my entire immediate family had been together in 9 years. It was so wonderful and we all had a great time. I named myself documentarian of our gathering, and got some great photos and videos. My family members are all quite photogenic and we had a blast. Here you go! Enjoy.

Do you know what a Chilton is?

Well, unless you live in or around Lubbock, Texas or you went to Texas Tech University in Lubbock you probably don't know what a Chilton is.
The other day I was in a local establishment here in this major Texas metropolis where I live and I ordered one of these drinks and the manager of the place came over and asked me where I had heard of this drink. I explained to her the story I have always been told about this particular drink and why no one outside of this west Texas town knows anything about it. It's Lubbock's best kept secret, in my opinion.
As the story goes, this drink was invented some years back by someone who was a member of the Lubbock Country Club and used to frequent the bar there while his or her spouse was out golfing.
It is a great, refreshing drink and it is on the menu in any bar or restaurant in the area in and around Lubbock where they serve drinks, and it wasn't until I moved to a bigger city that I realized, no one knows what this drink is. I thought this was weird at first, because everywhere I go, I have to tell the bartender how to make it. I mentioned this to a friend and that's when she told me the story and why no one knows about this mysterious drink.
My best friend was in an airport bar in the DC metro area during a long layover and she was the only one in the bar except for one other passenger between flights, she sat down and ordered one and this other person turned to her and asked if she went to Texas Tech. She replied yes that she was from that area. He then explained that he and his wife both attended Tech and that was his wife's favorite drink as well, and never heard anyone order it outside of Lubbock.

So anytime you hear someone order a Chilton, ask if they are from Lubbock, Texas or went to Texas Tech, and I guarantee the answer will be YES every time.

Should I share the drink recipe here? Not sure, maybe I want to keep it a secret, but if I receive a lot of replies to this blog and you guys want to know how to make this intriguing and mysterious drink, I might be inclined to share.

Enjoy your summer and be sure to have lots of lemons on hand if you want to make Chiltons at your next backyard Barbeque.

Tape doesn't start with a 7

This is a very interesting and amusing story. One of my girlfriends (we'll call her Rosie) and I were on our way to visit another girlfriend (let's call her Rochelle) and upon entering her gated complex we were trying to determine her gate entry access code. "Rosie" was driving so she turned to me and asked me what the code was.
"Oh, I can't remember, seems like there was a 7 in it...I don't know....Oh wait, I do remember, it spells out the word TAPE!"
She turned to the keypad to type it in, then immediately turned to me and said...

"Tape doesn't start with a 7!"

From that day on, this has been one of my favorite phrases, but that's not the only clever thing she has ever said. Oh no...there are many others where this came from...just you wait!
